On March 27, 2006, Candice Wiggins of Stanford was called for a charge against LSU’s Seimone Augustus while passing the ball in the final seconds of the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight. What would have been the game-tying 3 pointer by Stanford’s Krista Rappahan was waived off. Wiggins’ 23 points were not enough as LSU would go on to the Final Four with a score of 62-59. However, Augustus struggled in the next round, scoring only 14 points, and LSU would lose to Duke 45-64.
On April 6, 2008, promising UConn freshman Maya Moore would score 20 points and grab 9 rebounds, but see her first NCAA Tournament end in the Final Four to an inspired Stanford Cardinal led by senior Candice Wiggins’ 25 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 assists. Stanford dispatched UConn handily, 82-73, but would fall short in the title game to Tennessee 48-64.
On October 7, 2011, Seimone Augustus, Candice Wiggins, and Maya Moore will take the floor to try to win a WNBA championship…together.
